September 11th, 20NOW.

Its not real often when I am going to bust out two blogs on consecutive days, or for that matter two within 24 hours. I read something today that really got me going. As some of you know I have some personal favorites in the world of sports media. One of those is Jim Rome. On his show yesterday he had a guest host while Van Smack is on vacation it was John Feinstein. This is like a Seinfeld episode so you will see it all tie together eventually. My other favorite sports media personality is Bill Simmons. He blogs on ESPN.com and is known as the Sports Guy. Basically Simmons is my hero. He has a great job, and is really good at what he does. Anyway he has been on vacation as well, so ESPN put his archive up, and had it sorted and catagorized so you can easily find certain blogs/articles. So I was looking through some of his old stuff to read and I happened on his blog from the week of September 11th. Simmons is a really passionate guy, much like most sports fans are. We have no choice, because we are endlessly controlled by something we have no control over, therefore we are constantly effected by things that are suprises to us. You never know what is going to happen in sports. Ok back to the topic. I read his blog and remember what is was to feel that wierd spot in your stomach like we all did that day. How it was tough to hold back tears, tough to not punch a hole in the wall, tough to not want to go buy a gun and seek revenge. What is totally sad is that the terrorists won. No matter how the war in Iraq or Afghanistan plays out, they won. They didn't win because of how many people died that day, they sure as hell didn't win on United 93, they didn't win because all of our hearts were broken. They won because we are a nation divided today. We thought that we came together that evil day and for a few months we did. In Simmons article he said something about how cool it was that we all rallied around our President. He said the government and the nation came together with President Bush. Wow. Remember what it was like that day? Think about how you are today. did it change you for the better or worse. Has our country become closer since 9/11? No. We are on two sides right now. We are either Democrat or Republican. Before 9/11 it was ok to be on one side or the other and still have friends from the opposite party. Now it is like we are either Confederates or Nationals. This simple blog does nothing to change the country and I know that. but it just makes me sick to think that we are letting the terrorists continually win. Everyday that we act like we do, we slam another plane into that building.

I tuned into Rome yesterday and found Feinstein. I hate Feinstein. He is a great writer and can carry the show. What I didn't like was his rant about how Bush is the worst president ever and that he can't wait untill he is out. He cussed the war, and tried to make people feel terrible about all the people who have been killed in the war. He was convinced that if a Democrat were in office the world would be peaceful. I vomitted in my mouth. The politicians in Washington, wether Dem or Rep are all jokes. They all have an agenda that revolves only around themeselves. It all tied together though. Even in my sports world I can't listen/read my favorites without seeing a nation torn.

September 11th could have turned this nation into the beast that we should be. Instead it has weakened us significantly. It isn't because of them, it is because of ourselves. We have created a mess and it seems to me that we haven't even begin to see the tip of the iceberg. I love President Bush the man. I don't think he is a great president, I just think he is a good man. He has had the biggest act of war against this nation as well as the biggest national disaster happen to us while he has been in office, so you see his luck hasn't been the best. All that being said, I think we have a chance to change the course of this nation when we vote for the next president. I am looking forward to having the chance to vote in a new man for the job. That person that might change the world may even be a Democrat, I just hope that when we go to the polls we remember what it was like to have our hearts ripped out. I hope we remember what it is like to be a patriot. I hope that we stop and think about United 93. I know I will.
